This is a gifted experience in exchange for an honest review.

As the nights have started to draw in, more local lockdowns introduced and the weather becoming wetter, I’ve started to think about how we can learn more from the Scandinavians and embrace this season. That sense of cosiness feels essential now so we can survive being indoors and increasingly amongst one another (sometimes against our will!) throughout autumn and winter.

Bunny and The Bell

So when Joanna from Hull-based slumber party company Bunny and The Bell got in touch to review her slumber party package for the boys I was so excited!

Joanna asked me questions about what kind of theme the boys would enjoy and we agreed a time to drop off and set up the kit. Joanna was exactly on time and masked up and gave me all the assurances I needed regarding the cleanliness of her kit.

All of the kit was washed on a high temperature and rested in sealed bags for at least 72 hours prior to our hire and the same onwards for the next person.

The set up

I had decided that a jungle theme would be perfect for our slumber party so our set included:

  • Two slumber dens with a jungle theme (normally £25 per night) Other themes include floral, forest and Christmas (some families have booked this last one to welcome the arrival of their elf back in December!)
  • HD projector with 100 inch portable screen and a popcorn machine (normally £59 hire per night)
  • Hot chocolate hamper – chocolate stirrers and marshmallows from White Chocolate Rabbit (£3 per person)

All of the equipment is CE approved and Joanna had provided spare batteries for the fairies lights adorning the teepees.

The only thing I needed to provide was the inner pillows and duvets for the boys. Everything else pictures including the trays and lanterns was supplied.

Chocolate hamper

This was the first time James and Ted had ever tried Percy Pigs and they were absolutely in love! Looks like I might need to try them out on the cheaper Aldi alternative (Leo the Lions!) The boys loved swirling the chocolate sticks into their warm milk and making it all chocolatey and adding their mini marshmallows too!

Popcorn fun!

Joanna knew that we couldn’t have a movie night without popcorn so it was exciting to borrow a real popcorn maker and let the boys make their own from scratch!

Straight to bed!

As soon as the snack and drinks were made, Ted was insisting it was bedtime! He absolutely adored the soft animals provided, especially the monkeys!! The cosy teddy blankets were the softest I’ve ever felt and are now on my own home decor wishlist!

Projector hire

Over summer I felt like everyone I saw on instagram had bought themselves a projector and screen for outdoor cinema nights in their gardens. However, I’d been put off the large expense thinking I’d only use it once. Hiring one though is a great way to see whether it’s going to suit you as a family before you buy one.

I couldn’t believe how simple it was to use though! I simply plugged in my amazon Fire Stick straight into the projector and used the remote like normal. It only needed a slight roll of the lens to adjust the focus and a small turn of the screw below to raise the angle slightly. We were good to go within seconds.

Of course, in my head, I had a lovely cosy night ahead watching The Jungle Book and everything being on-brand. Haha how naive! Instead, I had the pleasure of watching Paw Patrol on a 100 inch screen across the back of the living room..!

Bunny and the Bell

As a family who loves camping but slightly put off by bad weather camping after our adventure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park during a storm (!), indoor glamping was absolutely perfect for us this weekend.

Joanna’s family are also glamping lovers and you can really tell from their attention to detail. Not only does Bunny and the Bell hire out children’s/teen slumber party kits but they also let bell tents for large events and weddings, offering those additions to make it extra special such as carpets and even chandeliers!

With a 13 year old, 8 year old and 4 year old, Joanna is a force of nature juggling family life and her party hire business. But her integrity shines through. She was keen to tell me about her nature-loving,  eco-warrior daughter who has brought sustainability to the forefront of the business. Where possible, all the products she uses in her party hire business is British sources and any single use plastic (for hygiene reasons), I was encouraged to pop back in the hamper for return to Joanna and she assured me these would be made into eco bricks!

A bit about the business owner

Having originally arrived in Hull 20 years ago for University and (never turning back), Joanna spent years in marketing but recently realised she needed a better work-life balance so established Bunny and the Bell.

She says, “Glamping had always been an escape, I would rather be in a beautifully decorated bell in the great British weather, than abroad.”

Joanna wanted to provide a service for families who didn’t have the space to store their own camping gear and then the slumber parties have been ideal for those who don’t have the space to have a bell tent up either. She’s clearly passionate about providing a quality service to families which enables them to make the most special memories.

With a redundancy from the travel industry for Joanna’s husband, this new venture has been the perfect way for them to combine their marketing, events planning and staycation knowledge and skills and diversify to meet the demands of this year’s pandemic.
