Whether you need extra cash on the run up to Christmas or just fancy some Amazon treats for yourself, this app is for you.
What is it?
Launched by recruitment website Indeed.com, this smart phone app gives you points for every job vacancy sign you photograph in a business’s window and upload whilst you’re in that location.
How much does it cost?
It costs nothing to download to your phone and you can make a tidy sum at your own convenience.
Where can I get it?
You can download Job Spotter from the App Store here.
Then what do I do?
Wherever you are, if you spot a “help wanted” sign in a shop window, open the app and click on submit photos. You’ll be asked to take one clear photo of the sign whilst in the app and then one photo of the shop front with the business sign included.
What do I get out of it?
It’s a useful app to jus have on your phone for when you spot a sign. I wouldn’t recommend going out specifically just to do this, although it pays better than Pokemon Go! Every approved submission earns you money in gift cards. The quickly add up too!
What do they get out of it?
Each approved job will then likely be advertised on Indeed.Com It’s just a way of crowdsourcing job vacancies so they can be collated in one place.
Any tips to make the most of it?
Points allocated to your submission vary depending on whether you have to go in store to apply (more points) or if you can just apply online (fewer points). A vacancy is for a small independent business is likely to achieve more points than a big high street chain. That’s because large stores often have a sign up all year round, so the smaller businesses are more likely to be genuine vacancies.
You can earn extra points by validating other peoples’ submissions in the app too.
To tot up lots of submissions in one go, target areas that have a lot of shops together and think about the time of year too. Seasonal workers tend to get hired in the autumn for the Christmas period so after summer holidays is a great time to go hunting for those help wanted signs!
What makes it family friendly?
You can take a quick couple of snaps in the app and it doesn’t matter who is with you. I love it! It’s so simple to use and you don’t have to chat to anyone. You don’t have to be discreet about it either. This is what I earned wandering down a high street at the weekend.
Let me know if you download it and what you’re going to buy with your points!
