You simply can’t have a Countdown to Christmas without mentioning the hundreds of Christmas movies we’re all likely to watch on the run up to the big day!
I love to start early with Love Actually. It’s not actually my favourite Christmas movie but I feel like its a good one to pave the way and can be enjoyed once ThriftyBaby has gone to bed. We watched it last weekend and NotSoThriftyDad had never seen it (he has this weird thing against Hugh Grant) but he seemed to enjoy it too to my relief! We had it on whilst decorating the Christmas tree which was fine with me as I’ve seen it a million times so feel I can dip in and out of it.
My actual favourite Christmas movie is The Holiday. There is no competition. Even if it is just to drool over Iris’ cosy little English cottage. I can’t get enough of that or Amanda’s LA pad with remote control blinds and own swimming pool. This sums up my personality completely!
However now that ThriftyBaby has a bit more of an attention span, he’s started to sit with us and watch full films which is brilliant so here is his Christmas movie education so far:
- BIG – a family favourite, not exactly a Christmas movie but always shown around Christmas so totally counts.
- The Snowman – we went to see this today with a live orchestra playing!
- Elf – he laughed throughout this – clever boy!
- Polar Express – creeps me out a bit if I’m honest but I love the morals in this Christmas movie.
NotSoThriftyDad has suggested we watch Gremlins next as a family….yeah I’m not too sure that’s the best idea though! I think we need more child friendly, more animated Christmas movies, so here’s our “to watch” list:
- The Snowdog (or anything with dogs in really)
- Father Christmas (classic)
- Casper (guaranteed to make me cry!)
- The Grinch (I’ve never seen this!)
So whether you’re looking for Christmas movie inspiration for your Countdown to Christmas or you’re thinking of what DVD to include in your family’s Christmas Eve box, or maybe you’re looking for a Christmas movie gift guide to buy films as presents for your loved ones I hope this has given you some ideas.
